All About Bloodstone
Bloodstone is a variety of Jasper. There are two types that share its name - Afircan Bloodstone (Seftonite) which is more transparent with grey to black and red colouring and Dragon’s Blood which is deep greens and red.
Historical legend says that Bloodstone was formed when drops of Christ’s blood fell and stained jasper that was at the foot of the cross and this is what gives it its special powers. Carved scenes of the crucifixion of martyrs have been found in Bloodstone - believed to have been made by Medieval Christians. They referred to Bloodstone as the Martyr’s stone.
Bloodstone has also long been prized in India as an aphrodisiac - with ground Bloodstone being used for this purpose.
